Hope for the Grieving
7 Comforting Promises from God’s Word
God is with you in your grief.
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”
(Isaiah 41:10).
God understands your grief.
“He [Jesus] was despised and rejected – a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief”
(Isaiah 53:3 NLT).
God sees your pain.
“You, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; you consider their grief and take it in hand”
(Psalm 10:14).
God hears your cries.
“The Lord has heard my weeping”
(Psalm 6:8).
God can give you joy in your grief.
“You have turned my mourning into joyful dancing. You have taken away my clothes of mourning and clothed me with joy”
(Psalm 30:11 NLT).
God can use your grief to comfort others.
“The Father of compassion and the God of all comfort … comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”
(2 Corinthians 1:3–4).
God will one day wipe away every tear.
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”
(Revelation 21:4).
