Someone from Ukraine was attending June’s class at First Baptist and said, “Can we take what you are doing and go back to Ukraine and translate it and see how it might work?” So they decided to translate an inexpensive booklet first. Since very good reports came back from that trial run, we decided to do a full translation of all of our topics. That was back in 1996. My background is in business, and I grew up in a fairly conservative family. Counseling was for people who had more money than sense. That was a time when you really wondered, Are they good Christians? So in my mind, counseling was a very negative thing. But I think the Lord just assured me along the way as I saw that in my own life counseling had drawn me closer to Him. I think God has a good laugh when He takes one of the skeptics and uses them to be one of His salesmen for biblical counseling – but He uses them anyway. It really has been Him working through me … because I’m not a likely person to be doing this.
